GRANDCHILDREN AND THE ADVENTURES OF SUMMER 2015
By Anne Donegan Costas
GRANDCHILDREN
What adventures I had this summer with 3 of my 6 grandchildren! If you have been blessed with grandchildren then you know the love I have in my heart for each of them. They spent 10 days with me recently. I wasn’t sure I was going to make it for 10 days. But I knew if I had to I could think of a decent reason why we needed to return to their home sooner than expected.
ADVENTURES OF SUMMER 2015
Our visit started with their favorite activity when they visit. We went to ZDT’s, a waterpark/playplace that we have locally. We spent our entire first day at ZDT’s! I am talking arriving close to opening time and staying until all the rides quit running. The kids never stopped! It is a great place for kids and our day was perfect! We went home ready for a shower and a cozy evening watching a movie.
WHAT IS NEXT
Water skiing was a favorite activity of my family when I was young and when my children came along they learned to water ski also. It has been one of my absolute favorite memories I have from childhood and from when my children were young also. There is something about being on the river/lake that draws me. I really enjoy just being outdoors because I feel closer to God. It gives me a sense of peace and closeness to him. And it made perfect sense that my grandchildren learn to ski. And that they did. They had a blast and enjoyed it as much or more than I had hoped. We went several times during the course of their stay so they could really get the feel of it.
KEEPING THE PACE
It was going to be difficult to match ZDT’s and water skiing but I had to try. We were only on day 3 and had 7 days left. There is plenty to do in this area so there was really not a problem. We went to movies, the playground at our park, our wave pool, which they thought was the coolest thing ever! We went downtown and had ice cream at one of our local coffee/ice cream shops and another day went to get shaved ice at another downtown local place. We kept plenty busy. There were also those days we played in the yard and our pool. Our “pool” is one of the 9 feet by 18 feet blow up pools. But we had fun filling it with the hose and spraying each other as we filled it.
GOING HOME
We left after 10 days to head back to their home even though they would have stayed longer. But I rather like leaving while they are still enjoying their stay so they will want to come back. 🙂 I was and am very grateful that I have the time to enjoy my grandchildren and they enjoy coming to see us. We feel blessed that our children are willing to share their children with us. It means the world to us. So as our summer comes to a close and I look back on all the things I did this summer–I will remember this summer as the summer we did it all and give thanks to God!

Thank you for posting these memories, Anne. Really interesting to read!!!
I love reading your perspective, especially about our shared experiences. Something I have enjoyed learning, for myself, is the blessings I’ve received from others who have different perspectives. I would love to better understand how you, or your audience, deal with judgment, for being different, themselves. Theoretically, it sounds simple. But with our families of origin, it’s not always so. Thanks for sharing your blogs with me!
Sounds so wonderful! What a blessing! Thank you for sharing. You’ve stirred up my own good memories of my childhood, of my children’s, and given me something to look forward to! Love you, Anne!
Thank you, Tracy. I have found your blog and enjoy it also!
Coming from you I consider this quite a compliment. You are a gifted writer.
Love you too! Anne
Thanks for sharing your adventures with me. You are blessed. I am sure your grandchildren will treasure the time they got to spend with you.
Thank you Melinda! I hope so. I have some pretty special memories.
I would hope everyone does. However, having worked with students all our
lives you and I both know that is not the case. Thank you for your comments.
Every little encourgement I get is so incredible for me.
