CHRISTMAS REFLECTIONS
REFLECTIONS
A Spiritual Journey
By Anne Donegan Costas
Our reflections and thoughts on Christmas are many as we think back over the past weeks. The lights are put away, the trees are down, the family have all returned to their own homes and daily routines. All is back to normal. Or is it? Or what is normal for that matter? What choices will we make each day that make us who we are. Will any of our choices be different now that Christmas has come and gone? If we truly live into the life that Christ gives us “anew” each Christmas Day our life will not go back to the daily routine we had prior to Christmas.
Before
Prior to accepting Christ into our lives as our savior we lived for our own selfish reasons. We did what we wanted every day and, if you are like me, didn’t think much about it. We might have done good deeds. There are many good people who do good deeds and are not Christian. Those who live in the world have different priorities than those who live for Christ. Accomplishments, money, prestige, the car we drive, clothes we wear, are all more important than living for others.
Present
Reflections of our past life may seem meaningless. However, if we really think about the meaning of Christmas and realize that Christ came to earth for one reason only: to die for you and me. All he wants in return is for us to love him, spend time with him, and tell our friends about him. It is hard for me to fully understand all that the Bible teaches. It is an ongoing study. However, I have learned that God wants the absolute best for me and loves me beyond my comprehension. This is also true for you. Often times we feel unlovable. At least I do. We cannot imagine anyone loving us enough to stick up for us-much less DIE! Really? Die? But he did. That was Christ’s only purpose. He was born so he could die for our sins.
Now What?
So as I look back over my last few weeks and months I want to change some of what has become too routine for me. There are some habits I have formed that are contradictory to the life Christ calls me to live. Habits are so hard to break. I have tried before. I have been successful at times and other times not so much. I will be working in the weeks to come to change some things. I hope you will join with me in looking at your own life to see what you might do differently to live more into the life God has prepared for you. That is what I will look forward to. Walking where Christ has already walked and prepared the road for you and for me. I hope you will join me.
God’s Peace~
